Featured Tour #1 - Herr's
A strong commitment to family, faith, and community has been the hallmark of
Herr Foods' success in the snacking industry. The company was founded in 1946,
when Jim Herr bought a potato chip producer in Lancaster and began hand-packing
the chips and selling them door-to-door.
Since those early days, Herr's has grown into an industry giant. Although potato
chips are still a huge seller, Herr's cheese curls, tortilla chips, and other
products have been pleasing snack-hungry fans for decades.
Due to a strong demand for factory tours, Herr's built a 15,000 square foot
visitors center in 1989. You'll begin your tour with a 10-minute video that
explains the production process - and then, it's off to the pretzel room, where
you'll watch as the dough is mixed and baked.
Following the pretzel gallery, you'll get a glimpse into the corn chip, cheese
curl, and popcorn rooms - and then, on to the centerpiece of the tour, the potato
chip production area. At the end of your tour, your guide will bring your tour
group a tray of warm, fresh potato chips, but there's a catch - no one leaves
until the tray is empty!

3 people to run the two pretzel rooms.
