Travel
through Pennsylvania and you'll find a variety of local flavors - each influenced
by the immigrants that settled here. Each wave of new Pennsylvanians brought with
them their own unique dishes, and of course their own snacks as well.
In particular, the Pennsylvania Dutch brought with them their love of pretzels,
and pretzel makers still dot the Pennsylvania Dutch stronghold in south-central
PA No wonder, then, that Pennsylvania leads the nation in both pretzel production
and consumption. One of the most beloved of these authentic pretzel-makers,
Sturgis Pretzels, still makes their pretzels the
way the original Pennsylvania Dutch settlers did - by hand.
But pretzels aren't the only snacks making Pennsylvanians thirsty. Plenty of
Pennsylvania farmers sell a significant portion of their potato crops to our
plentiful potato chip makers, like Herr's in the southeast
corner of the Commonwealth.
