Featured Tour #2 - Bradford Baskets
Please note: Currently, Bradford Basket Company is looking for a new location
for its facility. During this transition, it will not offer factory tours.
The artisans at Bradford Baskets are proud of their work. So proud, in fact,
that they sign their names to their work before it leaves the factory.
Each Bradford basket is handmade, using traditional weaving techniques. Each
weaver receives 16 weeks of training before they begin - and that commitment
to quality shows in each basket.
Surprisingly, Bradford Baskets is a relatively new company. Three brothers
and their childhood friend founded the company in 1993. Their choice of location
makes sense - Bradford County, PA is considered the hardwood capital of the
United States.
During your tour of Bradford Baskets, you'll be watching firsthand as the artisans
use their traditional techniques to create each basket from scratch. The craftspeople
are happy to share their knowledge of basketry as visitors follow baskets from
beginning to completion.
