Featured Tour #1 - Daffin's Candies
Ever seen a 400-pound turtle? Maybe - but have you seen one made out of solid
milk chocolate?
At Daffin's Candies in Sharon, you'll find a whole menagerie of gigantic chocolate
critters. That turtle is joined by a herd of deer, an elephant family, and more
in "Chocolate Kingdom" at Daffin's State Street location. And while
you can't chow down on any of the giant chocolate animals, you're sure to find
something to satisfy your sweet tooth - Daffin's 15,000-square-foot retail space
is considered "The World's Largest Candy Store."
The Daffin's Factory is actually a few miles away, in Farrell. You'll start
your tour with a short videotape, detailing the history of chocolate and some
background on Daffin's operation. From there, it's off to the production floor,
where you'll see the two 10,000 pound tanks that hold the materials that will
soon be transformed into delicious chocolate!
The tour continues throughout the plant - including the intriguing "bar
line," where up to 3,000 bars are wrapped per hour! Of course, there are
free samples for all at the end of the tour, as well as a factory store where
you can purchase more.
Anytime is a good time to visit Daffin's Candies, but the tour is especially
popular in the month leading up to Easter. The annual Swizzle Stick Day (the
Sunday before Palm Sunday) is a tradition - free swizzle sticks are dipped into
a fresh milk chocolate fountain and passed out to all! Don't miss it!
